A crisis involving Brazil’s supreme court and Justice Alexandre de Moraes could help presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro and hurt his opponent, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, according to The Guardian.
De Moraes, who helped convict former president Jair Bolsonaro, became a central target of his son Flávio’s address to thousands of far-right supporters in São Paulo on 7 September, Brazil’s Independence Day.
At the rally, the senator devoted more attention to the justice than to Lula, telling supporters that a vote for the incumbent was also a vote for de Moraes. The remarks placed a judge who is not a candidate at the centre of Bolsonaro’s election message.
