Authorities in Argentina briefly shut off tourist access to Iguazu Falls after heavy rainfall linked to an unusually strong El Niño drove a sharp rise in river levels.
National park officials imposed the precautionary closure on Monday as the Iguazu River’s flow surpassed 12,000 cubic metres per second, more than six times its average rate.
The restrictions were prompted by concerns that the rapidly rising river could overflow its banks.
