US Coast Guard says it intercepted ship carrying fuel bound for Cuba

The US Coast Guard said it intercepted the Grace, a large cargo vessel transporting fuel destined for Cuba, on 5 September in Caribbean waters between Cuba and Mexico.

US authorities said the ship was suspected of using methods commonly associated with the “dark fleet” to avoid detection. It was boarded and taken to Mexico.

The interception came as the Trump administration continued its oil embargo against Cuba. The New York Times reported that the vessel measured 91 metres, or about 300 feet, in length.
