Tigray armed groups accused of forcibly recruiting boys as young as 15

An alliance of armed groups in Ethiopia’s Tigray region is reportedly forcing men and boys as young as 15 into its ranks, according to The Guardian. Civilians are trying to flee amid reports of people being rounded up in the streets.

Fighting resumed on 23 September between Ethiopia’s federal government and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front, which governs the northern region.

The renewed conflict has shattered the fragile Pretoria peace agreement signed by the two sides in November 2022 and raised the threat of another humanitarian crisis.
