Ramaphosa urges men to act as South Africa confronts killings of women

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa urged men to take greater responsibility for addressing violence against women as he announced measures following a series of killings that have fuelled anger at authorities.

Ramaphosa acknowledged shortcomings in efforts to keep women safe. He said police would review unresolved cases involving the murder, attempted murder and serious sexual abuse of women and children within 60 days.

Police will also have 60 days to produce a funded plan to cut the forensic backlog in those cases.
