Allegations that Saddam Haftar directed a group responsible for drone attacks on fuel storage sites and power stations in western Libya have disrupted a US-backed unification effort, according to The Guardian.
The Tripoli-based Government of National Unity (GNU) says cooperation with Saddam Haftar is now impossible, undermining plans to continue working with him toward national unity.
Saddam Haftar, the son of Khalifa Haftar and deputy commander of the Libyan National Army, has increasingly been viewed by the US as a key figure in efforts to unite Libya’s security, judicial and political institutions.
