Kenya has recorded its first Ebola death, the health minister said Tuesday. The citizen had arrived from the Democratic Republic of Congo on Saturday, and 28 contacts have been identified.
The announcement comes as Ebola spreads rapidly in northeastern DRC, where an outbreak was declared in May. It is the country's 17th outbreak of the disease.
As of 2 October, the DRC had recorded 8,463 confirmed cases and 4,082 deaths since the emergence of the Bundibugyo strain. There is no vaccine or specific treatment for that strain.
