An Egyptian journalist has been charged with joining a terrorist group after authorities detained all six journalists at Matsadaash, an independent fact-checking and investigative platform.
Authorities arrested the staff last week, alleging in a statement that they were operating without a licence and publishing false news on behalf of the banned Muslim Brotherhood.
The whereabouts of the other five journalists remain unknown. Rights groups have described the detentions as a crackdown on press freedom, and calls have been made for all six staff members to be released.
