A senior ruling-party politician in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was beaten to death on Sunday after a radio appearance about Ebola prevention, according to his party.
Marie-Celestin Karondwa was acting president of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS) federal executive committee in Butembo, which has become a new hotspot for the outbreak.
The UDPS federation in Butembo said Karondwa was attacked after taking part in a programme promoting measures to prevent the disease’s spread, according to a statement reported by Reuters and cited by the Guardian.
